Construction//Deconstruction
The Concept: At 14, my closest childhood friend moved from Houston, TX to Seoul, SK. We swore to keep in touch, but the 15 hour time difference and our changing lives became too much to overcome.
The first piece presents a more data-driven take, with the timeline on the right showing the frequency of messages sent before and after this event.
The second presents a take on the emotional experience of sharing so much of your life with someone, then losing it not out of conflict, but inaction.
Obstacles: Demonstrating geographic distance symbolically, without simply using a map. Creating contrasting images that could be displayed separately or together.
Result: Using similar colors to create a relationshiip between the two, while also using contrasting shapes and elements.
Below: Scans of the final two pieces, alongside concept work and previous sketches.
