P004 → Signs and Story
The Brief: Create a series that represents a common narrative, eg. the Hero’s Journey or the cycle of seasons. Name three ‘agents’ within that story, and design based on their interactions with one another.
The Solution: A series of transit tickets that also serve as some form of identification, to represent the narrative of moving in the physical world in order to achieve internal change.
The narrative: The Driver’s License represents The Self, as it serves as a main form of identification for many. It additionally represents the ability to move anywhere in the physical world, but a tie to the Mundane, as licenses vary from state to state. The Transit Card serves as The Mundane/The Known World. It’s useful in everday life, but only functions in a specific city or country. The Boarding Pass, is The Escape. It’s a ticket to anywhere, representing the freedom of the skies and geographic distance.
